Our scholarship program has been a cornerstone in assisting students to access higher education without financial barriers. Beyond monetary support, we are nurturing a generation of leaders and changemakers who will drive the future of our community forward. 

We are dedicated to elevating the educational and socio-economic status of young people in our community. With the support of more than 50 volunteer members and a volunteer Board of Directors, we provide scholarships, support academic endeavors, and foster opportunities that invest in a brighter, more prosperous future for Southern Maryland.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation does not profit from funds raised. Every dollar goes toward helping students get to — and through — college. Donors may be entitled to tax deductions to the extent allowed by current federal law.

The Foundation is organized and supported by the Sigma Alpha Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., chartered in 2010 and serving Waldorf, La Plata, Accokeek, and Indian Head.

Each year, we award scholarships to male students facing financial constraints, helping cover tuition, textbooks, and the other costs that add to the complexity of college life. 

Each year, 7–8 colleges and universities along the East Coast are visited over a two-day span. The experience includes guided campus tours, interactions with college representatives, and college readiness workshops covering academic programs, student life, and admissions requirements.

Chaperoned by experienced mentors and Foundation members, the tour is a structured, supportive environment for motivation and exposure to higher education. Meals, lodging, and transportation are all included in the registration fee.

Alpha Scholars is a youth mentorship and educational initiative for students in grades 6–12 across Southern Maryland, including Charles, St. Mary's, and Calvert counties. Sessions build leadership, academic achievement, conflict resolution, and self-defense skills, while reinforcing the importance of finishing high school and pursuing higher education.

Sessions are held at regional venues including the College of Southern Maryland and local high schools.

In community partnership with the Jamaur Law Foundation, we help students and families build practical money skills budgeting, credit, and planning for the cost of college  so financial confidence goes hand in hand with academic achievement.
