The Sigma Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and The Alpha Foundation of Southern Maryland (AFOSMD) are proud to partner in offering scholarships to support the academic development and advancement of deserving young men in our community.
Graduating high school senior males residing in Charles, St. Mary's, or Calvert counties in Maryland.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Accepted or planning to enroll full-time at an accredited four-year college/university, junior/community college, or trade/vocational school in Fall 2025.
Active participation in the Go-to-High School, Go-to-College program of Sigma Alpha Lambda Chapter (encouraged but not mandatory)
Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a combination of factors, including academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, financial need, and a personal essay demonstrating goals and aspirations. If not selected, no correspondence will be shared.
Due May 10, 2025
Essay (1-page maximum): Respond to the prompt: "In what ways have your activities outside the classroom helped to shape or refine your skills, ideas, or values as a young man? Describe your participation in community service, extracurricular activities (e.g., sports and school clubs), community organizing, civic organizations (e.g., Boy Scouts), church groups, employment, or sibling care activities."
Official High School Transcript: Submit a copy of your official high school transcript.
Interview (Finalists Only): Finalists will be contacted to schedule a face-to-face or videoconference interview with the Scholarship Committee.
