The Alpha Foundation of Southern Maryland
At The Alpha Foundation of Southern Maryland (AFOSMD), our mission goes beyond words – it's a commitment to action. We are dedicated to elevating the educational and socio-economic status of young individuals in our community. With the support of over 50 active members from the Sigma Alpha Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and our volunteer Board of Directors, we provide scholarships, support academic endeavors, and foster opportunities that invest in a brighter, more prosperous future for Southern Maryland
Impact
Our scholarship program has been a cornerstone in assisting students to access higher education without financial barriers. Beyond monetary support, we are nurturing a generation of leaders and changemakers who will drive the future of our community forward.
How we make a difference
Our foundation annually awards scholarships to male students facing financial constraints for college tuition, textbooks, and additional educational expenses that add to the complexities of college life.
The annual College Bus Tour offers students an enriching journey to visit multiple Colleges inlcuding Historically Black Colleges and Universities, providing them with firsthand exposure to campus life and educational opportunities. This immersive experience empowers students to make informed decisions about their higher education choices in supportive and culturally rich environments
Alpha Scholars
The Alpha Scholars program targets young men in grades 9-12, emphasizing the significance of finishing high school and pursuing higher education while equipping them with leadership skills for their personal and academic growth. Additionally, the program broadens their horizons by presenting a variety of career opportunities, both conventional and unconventional.
